Mother blames alcohol for fatal crash that killed teen

When you click on the above link you'll be taken to the news article and the video footage taken after the accident.

LOXAHATCHEE, FL -- From her home in Loxahatchee, Jeannette Estremera wipes away tears looking at pictures of her 15-year-old son, Osvaldo Estremera.
"This was my baby and I would tuck him in every night ...and every night I would kiss him goodnight and he would say, 'I love you mom," she says.
Her precious goodnight memories now mix with images of the scene along Caloosa Blvd. in Palm  Beach Gardens early Tuesday morning: flashing lights, a truck pulled from a canal, her son's body covered by a tarp.
"I collapsed to the ground screaming my son's name out," she says.
She and Osvaldo, who went by 'Ozzie,' were at a friend's house late Monday night.
She says she left only for a few minutes and when she returned, Ozzie had left with an acquaintance, 27-year-old Jay Brandon Collins.
Estremera says she didn't know about Collins' history of drug charges but claims she did know he'd been drinking that night.
Although the investigation is not complete, she believes, "He was in no condition to drive, none whatsoever."
Why her son, a freshman and football player at Dwyer High School chose to get in the truck with him, she'll never understand.
Why he seemingly wasn't wearing a seatbelt when the truck lost control, ejecting Ozzie before crashing into the canal where Collins also died, makes no sense either.
"I never thought what happened that night was possible, even remotely possible," Estremera says.
She whispers "I love you" to a picture of her son, trying to push away memories of holding his cold hand along the shore of the canal, sharing one final goodnight prayer with her baby.
"I kneeled over to him and said, 'I love you, I love you, I'm so sorry you're hurt and that you're gone, that I'll never hear your voice again, that I'll miss you forever and you are the best gift God ever gave me."
Ozzie Estremera's family is holding a private viewing in their home Thursday.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday from 11am-2pm at The Gardens Memorial Park in Boca Raton.

DUI Programs In Florida

The Bureau of Driver Education and DUI Programs provides the oversight for 26 licensed programs. The Bureau administers Rule 15A-10, F.A.C., including instructor certification and training, investigating complaints, processing client appeals, conducting site visits, maintaining quality assurance, and evaluating programs' effectiveness.
The DUI programs are private and professional non-profit organizations that are required to provide education, a psychosocial evaluation and treatment referral services to DUI offenders to satisfy judicial and driver licensing requirements. Two educational services are offered - Level I for first-time offenders and Level II for multiple offenders. The Level I course is to be a minimum of 12 hours of classroom instruction and incorporates didactic and interactive educational techniques. The Level II course is a minimum of 21 hours of classroom time using primarily interactive educational techniques in a group setting. The average class size is not to exceed 15 students for Level II. This course focuses on the problems of the repeat offender and treatment readiness as the majority of students are referred to treatment. In no case is placement in Level II used in lieu of treatment.

Over 90 % of Fatal DUI crashes involve Drivers who've not been convicted of DUI's

Over 90 % of Fatal DUI crashes involve Drivers who've not been convicted of DUI's,
Efforts are underway in the United States to
increase the use of breath-alcohol ignition
interlocks among convicted DWI offenders, both
through passage of stronger state laws that will
require them for first-time offenders, and through
efforts to work within the criminal justice system
to maximize their adoption
(http://www.madd.org/Drunk-Driving/Drunk-
Driving/Campaign-to-Eliminate-Drunk-
Driving.aspx).
Even if such efforts are successful, they would
only partially solve the problem of alcoholimpaired
drivers. That is because a large
proportion of the alcohol-impaired fatal crashes
that occur every year involve drivers with no
prior DWI convictions. In 2006 only 7 percent
of drivers in fatal crashes with BACs 0.08 g/dL
or higher had previous alcohol-impaired driving
convictions on their records for the prior 3 years
(IIHS, 2008).

DRIVER ALCOHOL DETECTION SYSTEM FOR SAFETY (DADSS)

DRIVER ALCOHOL DETECTION SYSTEM FOR SAFETY (DADSS)

Research has begun and the technology will soon becomes available in cars. The projection is for the next five years to research and try pilot programs but we still need the majority of the public to support the implementation of this technology in vehicles. This technology will save approx 15,000 lives a year. It will reduce people being convicted in jail for Dui; since their car won't start if their above the BAC level but will the public support this type of safety device in all cars? Read the above link for more information on DADSS. Lets support this technology for the benefit of our families.  Do you believe people have the right drink and drive? I hope you thought No. (drunk driving is illegal). If you believe they shouldn't * Please share the message and show your support.

Poems~ Tributes to our Children~Post A Poem For Your Loved One

Love has seen no measure as the love of a mother to her son.
For he is ever-present in heart, soul, and mind; as in life, so in death.
Son your love is mine and my love forever yours.
